# Iron and Total Iron-binding Capacity (TIBC)

> This test measures the amount of iron in your blood and how well specific proteins can transport it throughout your body. It helps show whether you have low iron levels that may cause fatigue or high iron levels that could lead to toxicity. Doctors use these results to help distinguish between iron deficiency anemia and conditions related to iron overload or chronic illness. However, this test cannot identify the specific underlying cause of an iron imbalance or diagnose a medical condition by itself.
