# Iron

> This test measures the amount of iron circulating in the liquid part of your blood, a mineral your body needs to create healthy red blood cells. It helps show whether your levels are too low or too high, which is useful when evaluating symptoms like ongoing fatigue, weakness, or pale skin. Results from this test help doctors rule out or identify conditions related to iron deficiency or iron overload. However, because iron levels change throughout the day, this test cannot provide a complete picture of your total body iron stores on its own and is usually reviewed alongside other iron tests.
