# Lipase

> This test measures the level of lipase, an enzyme produced by your pancreas to help digest fats. It is most often used to detect inflammation or damage to the pancreas, which can cause symptoms like severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. While high levels strongly suggest a pancreatic issue, this test helps rule out other stomach or bowel problems. However, it cannot identify the specific cause of the damage or diagnose conditions like pancreatic cancer on its own.
