Immunofixation (IFE), Serum and Protein Electrophoresis, Serum

This test measures and separates proteins in the fluid part of your blood to identify abnormal antibodies. It helps show if your body is producing too much of a specific protein, which is often investigated when patients experience unexplained bone pain, fatigue, or frequent infections. Doctors use these results to look for disorders of the plasma cells, such as multiple myeloma. However, this test cannot diagnose a specific condition by itself and usually requires follow-up testing to confirm the cause of any irregular protein levels.
