> This test measures the level of Immunoglobulin M (IgM), a protein your immune system produces first when fighting a new infection. It helps show whether your body is responding to a recent infection or if there are issues with your immune system's ability to protect you. Doctors use these results to look for signs of immune deficiencies or specific blood disorders involving plasma cells. While high or low levels provide important clues, this test does not identify the specific cause of an infection or diagnose a condition on its own.
