# Osmolality

> This test measures the concentration of dissolved particles, such as sodium and glucose, in your blood or urine to evaluate the balance of water in your body. It helps show whether you are dehydrated, retaining too much fluid, or experiencing a disruption in your electrolyte levels. Doctors use these results to investigate causes of seizures or confusion and to check for kidney issues or the presence of toxins. However, this test does not diagnose a specific disease by itself and is usually reviewed alongside other lab work to identify the root cause of an imbalance.
