# Sodium, 24-Hour Urine

> This test measures the total amount of sodium passed out of your body in your urine over a full 24-hour period. It helps show how well your kidneys are balancing salt and water, which is important for investigating dehydration, swelling, or abnormal sodium levels in the blood. Doctors use these results to help determine if an electrolyte imbalance is caused by a kidney problem or another factor like diet. However, this test cannot diagnose a specific disease on its own and must be compared with blood test results to be meaningful.
