Uric Acid, 24-Hour Urine

This test measures the total amount of uric acid released in your urine over a full 24-hour period. It helps show if your kidneys are excreting too much of this waste product, which is a common cause of kidney stones. Doctors use this information to understand if high uric acid levels are caused by your body producing too much or your kidneys filtering it differently. While it aids in evaluating the cause of stones or gout, this test alone cannot diagnose specific diseases or determine the exact makeup of an existing stone.
