# Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) Sulfate

> This test measures the level of DHEA-S, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that helps the body create male and female sex hormones. It is often used to investigate symptoms such as excessive body hair, irregular menstrual periods, or infertility by checking if the adrenal glands are overactive. Measuring this hormone helps doctors distinguish between adrenal gland problems and other conditions, such as issues with the ovaries. However, this test alone cannot diagnose a specific disease or tumor and usually requires additional testing to confirm a cause.
