# Cortisol

> This test measures the level of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that helps your body manage stress and regulate metabolism. It helps show whether your body is producing too much or too little of this hormone, which is often checked to investigate symptoms like unexplained weight changes, severe fatigue, or muscle weakness. Results help doctors evaluate problems with the adrenal or pituitary glands, such as Cushing's syndrome or Addison's disease. However, since cortisol levels fluctuate naturally during the day and rise with stress, this test does not provide a final diagnosis without further medical evaluation.
