# Galectin-3

> This test measures the amount of Galectin-3, a protein in your blood linked to inflammation and the stiffening or scarring of heart tissue. It is primarily used to evaluate the severity of chronic heart failure and to estimate the risk of future complications, such as hospitalization. By tracking these levels, doctors can identify if a patient has a more progressive form of heart disease that requires closer monitoring. However, this test cannot diagnose heart failure on its own and does not identify the specific cause of tissue scarring.
