Catecholamines, Fractionated, Urinary Free, 24-Hour Urine
This test measures the amount of catecholamines—hormones like adrenaline released by the adrenal glands—in a urine sample collected over a 24-hour period. It helps doctors investigate the cause of symptoms such as severe high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, heavy sweating, or severe headaches. The results help determine if a rare tumor of the adrenal gland or nervous system, such as a pheochromocytoma, is producing excess hormones. However, this test alone cannot pinpoint the exact location of a tumor or confirm a diagnosis without additional imaging or testing.
