> This test measures the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in your blood, a chemical messenger that tells your thyroid gland how much hormone to produce. It helps show whether your thyroid is functioning properly, which is important for regulating your energy levels and metabolism. Doctors use this measurement to help distinguish between an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) and an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). However, an abnormal result does not identify the specific cause of the thyroid problem on its own and usually requires further testing to confirm a diagnosis.
