# Luteinizing Hormone (LH)

> This test measures the level of luteinizing hormone (LH), a chemical messenger made by the brain that controls the reproductive system. It helps show how well your ovaries or testicles are functioning and is often used to investigate causes of infertility or irregular menstrual cycles. Measuring LH helps doctors distinguish between problems originating in the reproductive organs and issues stemming from the pituitary gland. However, because LH levels fluctuate naturally throughout the day and menstrual cycle, a single test result cannot diagnose a specific condition on its own.
