# Follicle-stimulating Hormone (FSH)

> This test measures the level of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), a chemical made by the brain that controls egg production in ovaries and sperm production in testicles. It helps show how well your reproductive system is functioning and is often used to evaluate causes of infertility, irregular menstrual cycles, or signs of menopause. Measuring FSH helps doctors distinguish between problems originating in the reproductive organs themselves versus issues with the pituitary gland. However, because hormone levels change naturally throughout the day and month, a single result cannot diagnose a specific condition without considering other hormone levels and your medical history.
