Gastrin

This test measures the level of gastrin, a hormone that signals your stomach to produce acid for digestion. It helps doctors investigate the cause of severe or recurring stomach ulcers and symptoms of excessive stomach acid. This measurement is often used to screen for gastrinomas, which are rare tumors that release too much of this hormone. Because high gastrin levels can also result from medications or other health issues, this test does not diagnose a tumor by itself.
