# Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), β-Subunit, Qualitative

> This test detects the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone produced by the body during pregnancy. It is primarily used to confirm whether or not a person is pregnant, helping to determine if symptoms like a missed period are due to pregnancy. While a positive result indicates pregnancy, this test only provides a yes or no answer and cannot determine the exact age of the fetus or how far along the pregnancy is.
