Mannose-binding Lectin (MBL)

This test measures the level of mannose-binding lectin (MBL), a protein in your blood that helps your immune system identify and destroy germs. It helps show whether a lack of this protein is making you more likely to get infections, which is often a concern for patients undergoing chemotherapy or those with chronic conditions like cystic fibrosis. This information helps doctors determine if a specific gap in your body's first line of defense is contributing to recurring illnesses. However, this test cannot diagnose a specific infection or determine the overall health of your entire immune system by itself.
