> This test measures the amount of hemoglobin, the protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout your body. It helps show whether your tissues are getting enough oxygen, which is often checked to evaluate fatigue, weakness, or blood loss. This measurement helps doctors rule out anemia or conditions causing an excess of red blood cells. However, it does not identify the specific reason for an abnormal level, such as a vitamin deficiency or internal bleeding, without further testing.
