This test detects specific antibodies in your blood that the immune system creates to protect against the hepatitis B virus. It helps determine if you are currently immune to the disease, which typically happens after receiving a vaccine or recovering from a past infection. A positive result helps confirm that your body recognizes the virus and is protected against future exposure. However, this test alone does not diagnose an active hepatitis B infection or determine exactly when an exposure occurred.
