> This test detects a specific protein found on the surface of the hepatitis B virus to determine if the virus is present in your blood. It helps show whether you currently have an active hepatitis B infection, which can cause liver inflammation. This screening is useful for identifying both new infections and long-term chronic conditions. However, this test alone cannot tell if you are immune to the virus from a vaccine or past recovery, nor does it measure the severity of any liver damage.
