Cholinesterase
This test measures the level of cholinesterase, an enzyme in your blood that helps break down certain chemicals used in anesthesia and pesticides. It helps doctors determine if you are at risk for prolonged muscle paralysis after surgery or if you have been exposed to harmful insecticides. Results can help distinguish between a genetic enzyme deficiency and poisoning from chemical exposure. However, this test does not diagnose specific liver conditions or explain every instance of breathing difficulty after anesthesia.
