# Osteocalcin, Serum

> This test measures the level of osteocalcin, a protein produced by your bones when they are building new tissue. It helps show how quickly your body is breaking down old bone and replacing it with new bone, a process known as bone turnover. Doctors use this information to monitor conditions like osteoporosis, Paget’s disease, or bone issues related to kidney problems. While it provides insight into bone activity, this test cannot diagnose a specific bone disease on its own and is often reviewed with other results.
