Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Nuclear Antigen Antibodies, IgG
This test measures specific antibodies, which are immune system proteins, that develop months after exposure to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Because these antibodies typically appear long after an initial infection and stay in the body for life, this test helps show whether you have had a past infection like mononucleosis (mono). It helps doctors determine if an infection is old and resolved rather than new and active. However, this test cannot confirm a current infection on its own, as these specific antibodies are usually missing during the early stages of the illness.
