> This test measures the level of bile acids in your blood, which are fluids produced by your liver to help digest fats. It helps show how well your liver is filtering blood and if bile is flowing correctly through your digestive system. Doctors often use this measurement to investigate signs of liver dysfunction or to evaluate persistent itching, particularly during pregnancy. However, an abnormal result indicates a problem with bile flow or liver function but does not diagnose the specific disease causing the issue.
