Intrinsic Factor Blocking Antibodies
This test detects antibodies that attack intrinsic factor, a protein produced by the stomach that is required to absorb vitamin B12. It helps determine if your immune system is blocking B12 absorption, which is a key feature of a condition called pernicious anemia. Doctors use this result to distinguish autoimmune causes of vitamin deficiency from dietary causes. However, this test does not measure vitamin B12 levels directly, and a negative result does not completely rule out the possibility of pernicious anemia.
