Melanocyte-stimulating Hormone (MSH)
This test measures the level of melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), a substance produced in the brain that controls skin color and helps regulate the immune system. It is useful for evaluating function in the hypothalamus and pituitary glands, particularly in patients with chronic fatigue, pain, or unexplained inflammation. These results help show if a hormonal imbalance is part of a complex inflammatory condition. However, this test does not identify the specific cause of the imbalance or diagnose a disease by itself.
