# Syphilis: RPR With Reflex to RPR Titer and Treponemal Antibodies, Traditional Screening and Diagnosis Algorithm

> This test measures antibodies in your blood that the body produces in response to the bacteria that causes syphilis. It helps show whether you have an active infection, which is useful if you have symptoms like sores or a rash, or if you may have been exposed. Because this screening process includes a confirmation step, it helps distinguish a true infection from false alarms caused by other medical conditions. However, this test cannot determine exactly when you were exposed or detect other sexually transmitted infections.
