Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), Intact

This test measures the level of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in your blood, a chemical that controls the amount of calcium in your body. It helps show whether abnormal calcium levels are caused by overactive or underactive parathyroid glands rather than other issues like kidney disease or vitamin D deficiency. Doctors use this result to evaluate the cause of bone weakness or kidney stones. However, a PTH level alone does not provide a complete diagnosis and must be interpreted alongside your blood calcium results.
