# Thyroglobulin Antibody and Thyroglobulin, IMA or RIA

> This test measures thyroglobulin, a protein produced by thyroid cells, along with antibodies that can attach to that protein. It is primarily used for patients who have had their thyroid gland surgically removed to check if any thyroid tissue or cancer cells remain in the body. By tracking these levels, doctors can help rule out or identify the return of thyroid cancer. However, this test cannot diagnose thyroid cancer in individuals with a normal thyroid gland and is best interpreted by looking at trends over time rather than a single result.
