This test measures the total amount of testosterone in the blood using a sensitive method designed to detect very low levels of this hormone. It helps show whether hormone levels are appropriate for women, children, or men with conditions that significantly lower testosterone production. Doctors use these results to investigate causes for symptoms such as delayed puberty, infertility, or signs of excess male hormones in women.
