# Protein C Antigen

> This test measures the amount of Protein C, a substance in your blood that helps regulate blood clotting. It helps show whether your body has enough of this protein to prevent dangerous clots from forming in your veins. Doctors use this measurement to help identify Protein C deficiency, a condition that increases the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolisms. However, this test cannot accurately diagnose a deficiency if you are currently taking blood-thinning medication or have recently had a blood clot event.
