# Sex Hormone-binding Globulin

> This test measures the level of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), a protein made by the liver that attaches to hormones like testosterone and estrogen to control how much is available for the body to use. It helps clarify whether a person has too much or too little active hormone available, which is useful for investigating symptoms like excess hair growth, infertility, or low sex drive. This measurement helps doctors distinguish between actual hormone production problems and issues with how hormones are transported in the blood. However, this test does not diagnose a specific disease on its own and is usually interpreted alongside other hormone tests.
