> This test measures the level of mercury, a toxic heavy metal, in your blood. It helps show whether you have recently been exposed to mercury from sources such as contaminated seafood or industrial chemicals. Doctors use this information to help rule out mercury poisoning as the cause of symptoms like tremors, numbness, or mood changes. However, because mercury eventually moves from the blood into tissues, this test cannot accurately measure long-term exposure or the total amount of mercury stored in your body.
