> This test measures the level of cadmium, a toxic heavy metal, in your blood. It helps show whether you have recently been exposed to unsafe levels of this metal through sources like cigarette smoke, industrial work, or contaminated food. Doctors use this information to help rule out heavy metal poisoning as a cause for kidney or lung problems. However, because cadmium leaves the blood relatively quickly, this test cannot measure the total amount of the metal stored in your organs from past exposures.
