> This test detects specific toxins produced by Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) bacteria in a stool sample. It helps show whether these bacteria are causing an infection in the colon, which often leads to severe diarrhea after taking antibiotics. Identifying these toxins helps distinguish C. diff infection from other causes of digestive distress. However, a negative result does not completely rule out the condition, as the test may miss low levels of toxins.
