This test measures specific immune system proteins called IgG antibodies that target the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV). It helps determine if you have developed long-term immunity to the virus, typically resulting from a past chickenpox infection or vaccination. Doctors use this result to confirm whether you are protected against future infection or if you remain susceptible to the virus. This test only indicates past exposure and cannot diagnose an active outbreak of chickenpox or shingles currently happening in your body.
