It helps determine if you are currently experiencing an acute infection or a reactivation of the virus, which is often the cause of infectious mononucleosis (mono). Because these antibodies typically disappear within six months of recovery, their presence helps distinguish a current, active illness from a past infection. However, this test cannot diagnose a specific condition on its own and does not measure the exact amount of virus present.
