Cortisol, AM & PM

This test measures the level of cortisol, a hormone produced by your adrenal glands that helps your body manage stress and energy, at two different times of the day. Comparing morning and evening levels helps show if your body is maintaining its natural daily rhythm of hormone production. These results help doctors evaluate conditions involving too much cortisol, such as Cushing’s syndrome, or too little, such as adrenal insufficiency. However, this test alone cannot identify the specific cause of abnormal levels or diagnose a disease without additional testing.
