This test measures and separates the different types of proteins found in a urine sample collected over a full 24-hour period. It helps show how well the kidneys are filtering waste and whether the body is producing abnormal proteins often associated with immune system disorders. This analysis helps doctors distinguish between different types of kidney damage or identify signs of conditions affecting plasma cells, such as multiple myeloma. However, this test alone cannot diagnose a specific disease and usually requires follow-up testing to confirm the cause of any abnormal protein levels.
