Immunoglobulin A, Subclasses (1-2)
This test measures the levels of two specific subtypes of Immunoglobulin A (IgA), which are proteins the immune system uses to protect the body from infections. It helps show whether the immune system is missing specific parts of this defense, which is often checked in patients who have frequent sinus or lung infections. Doctors use these results to investigate immune deficiencies or to check for abnormally high levels associated with certain blood disorders. However, this test alone cannot diagnose a specific disease or determine the exact cause of an immune system problem without further evaluation.
