# Pancreatic Amylase

> This test measures the level of pancreatic amylase, a digestive enzyme specifically produced by your pancreas. It helps show whether the pancreas is inflamed or injured, which is often investigated when a person has severe abdominal pain. By isolating the enzyme coming from the pancreas, this test helps doctors distinguish between pancreatic disorders and other causes of high amylase levels, such as salivary gland problems. However, an elevated result does not diagnose a specific condition like pancreatitis on its own and usually requires additional testing.
