Carbohydrate-deficient Transferrin (CDT), Adult

This test measures specific changes to transferrin, a protein in your blood that carries iron, which occur after heavy alcohol consumption. It helps show whether a person has been drinking large amounts of alcohol regularly over the past few weeks. Doctors use this result to distinguish alcohol-related health issues from other medical conditions or to monitor abstinence. However, this test cannot diagnose genetic disorders or evaluate severe liver damage caused by advanced disease.
