# Calprotectin, Fecal

> This test measures the amount of calprotectin, a protein released by white blood cells, in your stool. It helps show whether digestive symptoms are caused by actual inflammation in the intestines. This distinction helps doctors differentiate between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and functional conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, this test cannot diagnose a specific disease by itself, as infections and certain medications can also cause high levels.
