Citric Acid (Citrate), Random Urine

This test measures the amount of citrate in a single urine sample to check how well your body prevents kidney stones. Citrate is a substance that stops calcium crystals from sticking together, so low levels can increase the risk of stone formation. This test helps doctors evaluate why you might be getting stones, particularly in children or patients unable to collect urine for a full 24 hours. However, a single sample provides only a snapshot and does not diagnose specific kidney diseases or determine the exact composition of existing stones by itself.
