> This test measures IgM antibodies in the blood, which are specific proteins the immune system creates shortly after encountering Human Herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6). It helps show whether a person has a recent infection, reinfection, or reactivation of the virus, which is often associated with fever and rash. These results help doctors distinguish a recent HHV-6 response from other viral causes of similar symptoms. However, this test cannot confirm active viral replication on its own or determine the exact timing of the infection without further testing.
