West Nile Virus (WNV) Antibody, IgG and IgM

This test measures specific antibodies, which are proteins your immune system creates to fight the West Nile virus. It helps show whether you have a current or recent infection, which is useful if you are experiencing symptoms like fever, headache, or confusion. Doctors use these results to see if West Nile virus is the likely cause of a viral illness affecting the nervous system. However, this test cannot serve as a final diagnosis by itself because other similar viruses can sometimes cause a false positive result.
