It helps show whether slightly elevated protein levels are likely caused by prostate cancer or a non-cancerous condition, such as an enlarged prostate. This additional information helps doctors distinguish between patients who may need further procedures and those who may not. However, this test does not provide a final diagnosis of cancer and cannot replace a physical exam or tissue biopsy.
