Insulin Autoantibodies (IAA) (Endocrine Sciences)
This test measures the level of insulin autoantibodies, which are proteins the immune system creates that mistakenly attack the body's own insulin. It helps determine if high blood sugar is caused by an autoimmune reaction, where the body destroys the cells that regulate glucose. This measurement assists doctors in distinguishing between Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. However, the presence of these antibodies does not confirm a diagnosis of diabetes on its own and must be evaluated alongside blood sugar levels.
