> This test looks for antibodies, which are proteins the immune system creates to fight the Hepatitis A virus. If antibodies are detected, a follow-up test helps determine if the infection is happening right now or occurred in the past. This process helps show whether you have an active, contagious infection or if you are immune due to vaccination or previous exposure. However, this test only detects the immune response to Hepatitis A and does not measure liver damage or check for other types of hepatitis.
